چکیده

A ten-year-old girl presented with swelling on left upper eyelid, multiple hyper pigmented macules and small nodular swellings with hair growth all over the body since birth. Examination revealed hyper pigmented macules >1 cm in diameter, numerous in numbers on both legs. Hyper pigmented nodular lesion was noted in left temporofacial area and swelling on left upper eyelid with restricted upward movement (Fig 1). Computed tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) of orbits revealed bilateral optic nerve glioma (Fig 2). MRI brain showed focal hyper intensities in right dentate nucleus, left cerebral peduncle and bilateral globus pallidus. Hyper intense lesions on T2-weighted MR images of the brain, predominantly located in the basal ganglia, the brainstem and cerebellum are a frequent finding in patients with Neurofibromatosis type-I. Thus, a diagnosis of Neurofibromatosis type-I was made.

[Optic nerve glioma in a case of neurofibromatosis-1 in a child].

CLINICAL CASE The case of a three-year-old patient with neurofibromatosis type I is presented. Ophthalmologic evaluation revealed, by means of magnetic resonance imaging, the presence of a silent glioma in the optic nerve of the left eye. DISCUSSION Neurofibromatosis-1 can present in multiple ways to the ophthalmologist, with a glioma of the optic nerve being one of the most frequent central ...

Optic nerve glioma and the management of optic nerve tumours in the young.

Thirty-one patients presenting as orbital optic nerve glioma have been reviewed with maximum follow-up of 14 years. Sixteen of these patients have been reported on previously and further follow-up is provided. Sixteen patients had a stable clinical course with little change over a period of up to 13.5 years. Neurofibromatosis was relatively common in this group (11/16). Fifteen patients had pro...

Cerebellar calcification in central neurofibromatosis: CT in two cases.

Manifestations of central von Recklinghausen 's neurofibromatosis are well known and may include bilateral acoustic neuromas in the absence of peripheral neurofibromatosis or associated gliomas, meningiomas, other cranial nerve neuromas, optic nerve gliomas, and ependymomas [1]. A few reports deal specifically with the cranial CT findings in central neurofibromatosis [2-4]. One series [3] inclu...

Optic nerve dysfunction in a mouse model of neurofibromatosis-1 optic glioma.

Individuals with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) are prone to develop optic pathway gliomas that can result in significant visual impairment. To explore the cellular basis for the reduced visual function resulting from optic glioma formation, we used a genetically engineered mouse model of Nf1 optic glioma (Nf1+/-(GFAP)CKO mice). We performed multimodal functional and structural analyses both be...
